The Ascent is a project in Covington, Kentucky, USA, from German architect Daniel Libeskind. It is a 22 story luxury apartment condominium. It is made of a reinforced concrete superstructure with a concrete facade panels and a reflective glass wall. It’s positioned on the Ohio River with a northern view towards Cincinnati, Ohio. Each apartment has a view out towards Covington and Cincinnati, with the core of the building used for the utilities, electric, mechanical systems, and circulation.
Their webpage (best viewed in Windows’ Internet Explorer) is all that was needed to sell me on the idea. Actually, just one page. It described with two graphics the view visible from the apartments that are for sale; one graphic for the day, and one graphic for the night…
The spatial layout of the floorplans is based on the circular shape of the skyscraper; each apartment for sale is advertised with a view outward towards the city; four of eight floorplans are already sold out and it is impossible to see them. My personal favorite of the remaining plans are Panorama East, which has both the Grandmaster Suite and the Gathering room face the outside wall of the apartments, allowing both locations to view out to the city.
Floor Plans:

Panorama West

The Ascent is currently under construction… you can view it’s growth and development online on the Ascent’s webcam.

That’s a pretty awesome building, and it’s local! (relatively).
