The Bucket List
November 27th, 2008 by J.T. in Faith

Over the summer, I saw a tiny clip of the movie, “The Bucket List” in a bible study, where we talked about attitude and outlook on life having a great impact on how you see the world.  I later rented it to see the full film, my interest sparked.  I would recommend watching it to you.

The two main characters, Carter Chambers (played by Morgan Freeman) and Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) both receive news that they have terminal cancer at the same day, and are patients in the same room.  The remaining movie is each of them working on a “Bucket List” - a list of things to do before you die; as they are writing the list in the hospital, you can see the different motivations and goals behind each of their intentions, which you later see in character development as the progress through the plot.

Writing romantic love letters back and forth this semester in Italy while I am participating in Education Abroad, my girlfriend sent me her bucket list; that same night, I wrote mine:

1. Backpack through Europe.

2. Go Skydiving.
(I did this on October 6th, 2007 and was able to mark it off my list!)

3. Take a ride in a hot air balloon.

4. Go scuba diving in the coral reefs of the Caribbean Islands or off the east coast of Australia.

5. Help construct buildings in a third world nation and dig a well if they lack [a] clean water supply.

6. Go sailing on a sailboat.

7. Publish a book (architecture or another topic).

8. Have huge parties for every decade that my wife and I celebrate together for our marriage.

9. Spoil my grandchildren (someday) with their favorite candy when I go to visit them.

10. Build a treehouse.
